Abstract
The field of view is everything that at a given time causes light to fall onto the retina. This input is processed by the visual system, which computes the visual field as the output. Examining the visual fields is an integral part of any ophthalmic evaluation. Any lesion on the afferent visual pathway from retina to occipital cortex can be induced visual filed defect, which have some characteristic features in accordance with the location of le¡þsion. This article provides an overview of these structures then describes a framework for the localization and diagnosis of disorders affecting the afferent visual pathways.
